Maia rubbed her temples. She didn't really want to talk about this anymore. "I was walking through the park on my way home, it was raining. I was almost to my house when a huge shape came out and knocked me over. I could tell it was a wolf, and I knew that it wasn't.... a regular wolf because he spoke to me. Then the next full moon I began to transform. I think I passed out, but I woke up miles away from home. I hopped the train to Manhattan that night, and never looked back." She hoped that Simon wouldn't ask anymore questions after hearing the whole story.
"It doesn't make me sad, it makes me mad. Unlike you though, I actually blame Jordan for making me a werewolf." Maia cursed and feebly hoped that Simon hadn't picked up on her usage of his name. She hadn't even realized she'd said it until it was already to late. Oh well, if he asked she would just have to say he was an abusive ex who wouldn't let go. Maia wondered how many girlfriends Simon had actually had. The only one she could think of was Clary, the girl he had been in love since forever. She didn't know if he still had feelings for her or not, she had never had the courage to ask.
Maia wondered if Simon ever wanted another vampire to hang out with. As far as she knew, he didn't have any vampire buddies. "Well just forget about them." He didn't need to worry about any vampires who hated him. "What do you mean 'it comes with a cost'?" Were there problems that Maia didn't know about? Had something happened? She didn't think anything had happened, Simon would have told her if something had. At least she thought so.

Simon knew that Maia was feeling comfortable saying this, so he decided to drop it. “It sounds horrible. You didn’t deserve anything like that. Do you ever wish it would all go away? That you could be a Mundane again?” Simon still felt sorry for her. He didn’t know if she felt uncomfortable with herself at times, he knew that he did. He didn’t want to push the conversation too much further, but he was only curious about what she wanted. He hoped it wasn’t too private.
He nodded. He raised an eyebrow at the sound of this Jordan’s name. “So he did this to you, and then ran off?” Simon said, inquisitively. It was quite noticeable that she didn’t want Simon to know about this Jordan person, and he didn’t want to push her into to saying too much more. He knew that these conversations were going downhill slightly. He didn’t what to press on too much more. He wondered if Maia had had any boyfriends after the incident. Maybe she would be too frightened to. He could understand that.
“I always try to forget,” he said gently. He knew that all the other vampires wanted to kill him, and if they had the chance they would, but he could never befriend them. “I can’t make friends with any of the other vampires. All they see is the Daylighter, nothing more, nothing less. They won’t ever accept me for what I really am,” Simon said, coldly. He really did need a vampire friend to be with, but he knew that that would probably never happen.

"Not really. I love the pack, I have a good job, and a nice apartment." Maia was speaking truthfully. She didn't miss being a mundane and not knowing what else was out there. "If I was a mundane, I wouldn't be able to help the shadowhunters or protect anyone at all." She paused and looked at him. Was it really all that bad being a vampire? Maia personally would rather be a werewolf. She could be a bit biased but it just seemed like you could live a semi-normal life if you were a werewolf, but you couldn't if you were a vampire. What would Simon be if he could choose, a vampire or a werewolf?
"Yes, yes he did." Maia smiled a little. "What a guy, huh?" She tried to think of a different subject, any other subject, that they could talk about. Her mind landed, again, on his past girlfriends. She decided to ask about Clary, partly because she didn't want to think/talk about Jordan anymore and partly because she was dying to know. "Simon, can I ask you something?" Maia didn't even wait for his answer for fear of losing her nerve. "Do you still have feelings for Clary?" She dropped her eyes from his while waiting for an answer. If he answered like she thought he would, she didn't know what she would do.
"It must be hard, trying to forget them even though you're one of them." Maia felt sorry for Simon. All the other vampires didn't like him because of what he could do. It wasn't right, it's not like he asked to be a vampire and then to be a daylighter. "I'm sorry Simon." She really was sorry. He should be a normal guy with a family, not a hermit who played video games all day. Maia would never say it to him, but she wished that he had never been dragged into this world. If he hadn't, he would still be a normal, mundane guy.

“That’s good,” Simon said, glad that she was happy with her life, and she always seemed to be. He had never seen her depressed about her life before, like he had been for a while. “I see what you mean,” he said. “I enjoy helping them out as well.” And he wasn’t lying. Helping them out meant being with Clary sometimes, which he always enjoyed. He was also glad that Maia enjoyed being a werewolf. At least she could be more human than him most of the time. He would prefer that to this.
“Yeah, I wonder where he is now,” Simon said. He wondered if that Jordan person had caused much more damage to other people. Maybe he turned all of his ex-girlfriends into werewolves for the fun of it. Or did he really have a reason for doing it to Maia? Simon looked up as Maia spoke to him. “Uh…” he paused, feeling a little embarrassed. But they were friends, and they shouldn’t keep too much between them. “You mean as a friend? Sure… but she’s with Jace now, I should not be jealous,” even though he was jealous.
Simon nodded. “It is. It would be nice to know at least one other vampire as a friend. I would like that,” he said softly. He sighed quietly. He wished that the other vampire wouldn’t care about that. Maia was lucky like that, she fit into her pack right away, no questions needed. “It’s not your fault,” he said. “It all started with me. I made the mistakes. I screwed up my life.” He felt like running away to somewhere. He was so angry with himself.

Isabelle walked into the once familiar restaurant. after the horrid battle years ago she had started to travel the world, searching for the rare demons that posed a bigger threat. She'd been to Paris, France. To Hongkong, China. And several other place too, living a life of luxery. Flashing back into reality Isabelle looked around.
The place hadn't changed a bit. Still run by the same family and everything. The smell was the same too. isabelle raised her head an inch higher an smelled the air discretely. Oh it was marvelous, even food from france could not compare. As she brought her nose back down to the normal level, two familiar faces caught her eyes.
Simon Lewis and the werewolf girl Maia sat tables away. The waitress came by and caught her out of her anxious daze. " for one miss?" she asked. Isabelle turned her head and said "no, I'm meeting some old friends." With that she started strolling towards the table that held her old friends.
She finally reached the table after what felt like minutes but was really around 30 seconds. "Simon! it's been a while. How have you been?" Isabelle asked not even acnknowleging Maia. Then she slowely turned to Maia and said in a less enthusiastic tone "Hello Maia, nice to see you again." She had a kind smile, that was hinding her innermost feelings of jelousy.

"Uh huh." Maia was lucky to have all those things. A good job/apartment was hard to come by in New York. And she had heard of some packs that were... less than friendly, so she was very happy that she had found the one she was in. "Yeah, it makes me feel like I'm giving something back, like community service." She smiled at the thought of a mundane trying to get rid of demons instead working at a homeless shelter. They wouldn't know the first thing about fighting demons, much less killing them.
"I don't know, off ruining someone else's life?" Maia knew she sounded bitter, but it was hard not to. He turned her into a werewolf after all. She looked at Simon after he answered her question. He hadn't said that he wasn't jealous, just that he shouldn't be. "I don't believe you," she whispered. "I think you like her as more than a friend, just like you always have." Maia could see it in his eyes, he was still pining over her, even though she was with Jace. Even though she had a kid. Even though she would never like him back, he was still hung up on her. It was enough to make Maia want to hit him, and to make her want to cry. I will not cry, she thought to herself. I will not cry in front of him.
Maia didn't answer Simon, she thought that if she so much as opened her mouth she would lose it and starting bawling all over the place. She was still struggling not to cry when Isabelle walked to their table. Relief welled up inside her, something she never thought she would feel to wards Isabelle. Well you have some good timing because I was just leaving actually." She pushed her chair back and stood up. "Here you can have my seat." Maia hoped that Isabelle would sit down, maybe that would keep Simon from coming after her. Without even glancing at him, she turned away and started walking to the door.

Simon nodded. She really was a lucky girl, and he wished that he could have a life more like hers. She had all that she needed, really. “Yeah, it’s always comforting… the feeling you get afterwards.” Simon remembered when he almost killed the greater demon 20 years ago. He remembered the great feeling when it disappeared from sight. Back to its world, though not truly dead. That thought always made him feel warmer inside.
“Probably,” Simon said sighing. He hoped that the boy was dead and long gone from this world. Maybe he was. He could have been killed by someone or something. Maybe his death had been painful, horrible, gross… or maybe he wasn’t dead at all. He could still be roaming the place, waiting for another life to destroy. Well… Maia’s life hadn’t actually been destroyed. “I do like Clary as a friend. And I think she likes me that way too. Just friends, and nothing more.” He could blame himself for so many things at this point. He would never forget his immature act of stupidness when Clary had kissed Jace. The look he had given her…
Suddenly, another person walked into the Café. She had long, black hair. Simon instantly recognised her as Isabelle, just the person that he wasn’t really in the mood to see, not when Maia was around. Of course he liked the company of friends, but now was just going to make the situation more awkward. “Hi Isabelle,” Simon said, trying to sound happy to see her, “How are…” but he trailed off as he saw Maia offering her seat to Isabelle and then walking away quickly. Without another word, Simon moved at an inhuman pace up to Maia and stood in front of her. “Stay,” he whispered, “Please, please…”

Isabelle was stunned by the reaction she had gotten. Sure it had been a long time and all but she thought that Simon and her could at least still be friends. As for Maia, well they were rivals at the young age, and well it was petty and stupid so she figured that Maia would be over it.
Isabelle took a chair from a different table and set it on the end of the table that Simon and Maia were useing. She then walked over to the two and said "Hmm, well I figured you guy's would be happy to see me." she pouted slightly and laughed. "I've gotten myself a chair, so please Maia come and sit down. We all haven't talked in such a long time," She looked straight into Simons eyes and finished "I miss you."

Maia nodded to what Simon was saying. "Yeah like maybe being a monster isn't so monstrous after all." She hadn't ever done community service as a human, but after she saved someone's life it felt like helping the needy. Entertaining herself for a minute, she imagined her pack dressing up in superhero outfits, roaming the streets at 2:00 am and saving damsels in distress. She half-smiled at the thought. They didn't really need to do that though; they helped each other out of enough tight spots.
"Yeah" Maia sighed too, thinking about Jordan always gave her a massive headache. She avoided looking at Simon; he was so lying. "Really Simon? Nothing more?" He could have at least admitted it to her. She would have been able to take it, and it would have been a hell of lot better than him trying to lie about it. "But if you want to keep lying to yourself then that's fine. But you aren't fooling me."
Maia gritted her teeth as first Simon and then Isabelle caught up with her. She turned to Isabelle and smiled. "Isabelle, I am pleased to see you, but I'm just not in the mood to socialize right now, sorry." Then she reluctantly looked at Simon "Well, this has been 'fun' but there's no reason for me to stay now." She tried to keep her expression and her tone as blank as possible. "See ya Isabelle." Maia looked straight into Simon's eyes. "Goodbye Simon" Then she walked out the door.

Simon nodded. Being a monster wasn't too bad.... at least he didn't have to be afraid of the small things anymore, like random people on the streets carrying knives and such. He could stop those people now if he wanted to from hurting other people.
Simon smiled weakly. "Nothing more," he said, but he could tell that Maia knew that he was lying. He sighed. "Fine, I am lying. But I don't love her like I used to. She's a friend, and we don't get to see each other that much anymore, which makes me think about her even more than I should." He was getting tired about expression his dismal love life to Maia and wanted the subject dropped.
Simon looked worried. "It's great to see you Isabelle," he said. He didn't want to see Maia go. He didn't want to be with Isabelle all alone at the moment. "Just a sec," he said to Isabelle as he ran off after Maia. "Look, you can't leave me here like this with her. We came together, we leave together. And I'm not leaving. So please stay." He was getting desperate now.

Isabelle was frustrated, it was obvious who Simon would rather spend his time with, and it wasn't her. It hurt her to see that the once good friends had drifted so apart over the years. Of course Isabelle had always wanted more then friendship, but Clary always got in the way. Or Maia.
It felt like a punch in the face when Simon walked away from her to get maia. Isabelle just wanted to be alone with Simon to catch up, not with some mut friend that he finds amusing. It was all just a joke, vampire and a werewolf, unrealistic. But a vampire an a shadowhunter these days wasnt that bad.

Even though she had known that he was going to say it, Maia's stomach clenched when Simon finally admitted to having feelings for Clary. "Clary is married Simon. And has a kid." It was time for him to admit that he had no chance with her and get over it. 30 years was a long time to love someone who didn't love you back. "You've been in love with her for most of your life, Simon. I think that maybe it's time to find someone new."
Maia looked at him. "You really think I want to sit here and watch Isabelle flirt with you?" She wished that he would just let her leave. He had no idea what she was feeling right now. "It was a mistake to think that we could go out Simon. I'm a werewolf, you're a vampire. We're not right for each other. But you and Isabelle.... You and Isabelle are better than me and you."

Simon then became frustrated with Maia. "No! I don't think you want to watch it, and I don't think she wants to watch it either." Rejection was flushing through him fast. "Please, it's so not a mistake," the problem with being stuck a teenager made you sometimes act like one too. "Yes, we may be different, but I'm being serious now! She's pretty much human, Maia. She's not like me and when she's 50 I'll still be this," he gestured at his body. "This is not fun... and I'd rather be with another downworlder than a Shadowhunter." He was letting all his feelings flow out at the moment, and he didn't really mind. He wanted to get him point across.

Isabelle realised now more then ever that she was not wanted. Of course she used to be a foolish young girl that was stubborn and definatly not shy, but they didn't even give her a chance this time. She was frustrated, they won't even let her prove herself.
A lonely tear fell down Isabelles face as Simons words carried over to her. This was really unexpected and Isabelle didn't like it. She took a deep breath and wiped the tear from her face. She stood up and walked over to Simon and Maia. " You know what, this was a bad idea. You guy's stay and have a good time without me alright." She sniffed a bit and walked out. The rejection was to much for her to handle. [/size]

Maia felt a bit of smugness that Simon was begging her to stay and not sitting with Isabelle. It made her feel a little childish that she would even think that, but people so often chose everyone else over her. But as she glanced over at Isabelle and saw a tear running down her cheek, guilt instantly overtook her self-contentment. She hadn't even stopped to think about how Isabelle would feel if she left after barely two minutes of conversation. How conceited of her.
"Do you know what the definition of mistake is Simon? An error in judgment caused by poor reasoning. That's what this was." Maia felt only anger to wards him now; no warm, fuzzy, or nice feelings at all. Just anger. "I don't want to be with a vampire." She put as much venom that she could muster into those words and turned just as Isabelle walked up to them again. She was obviously upset, and some of Maia's guilty feelings rushed back.
"Isabelle," she started before Isabelle walked out. Shooting one last glare at Simon, she ran to catch up with her. "Isabelle wait." This night had turned into a disaster, but maybe she could fix a piece of it. "I'm sorry that I wasn't the greatest back there, but... Simon and I were actually on a date. It was going ok, at least until he admitted to still being in love with Clary." Maia hurried on, wanting to get it all out. "On some level, I guess I always knew but it was still hard to hear. And then you showed up in all your beauty and I snapped. I'm really sorry."
