Going out with Maia was going to be a little awkward. Simon didn't really know what to think, he was a little confused. What should he do? Say? He hadn't been out with anyone since he had been human, and that seemed so long ago. The though was scary. He so wished that he was human right now he hated being stuck like he was right now.
He looked across at Maia, and then at the front door of Taki's. He had stopped outside. He didn't know what he was doing, but he was having second thoughts about all of this. Was this a good idea? Would he feel awkward in a bar of downworlder's, even though he was one? The other vampires would still glare at him as if he just killed 10 humans and their bodies were lying on the floor in front of him. But he knew not to be afraid, they were only jealous.
He turned to Maia. "We're here," he said, really spotting the obvious. He didn't know how this little outing outing was going to end. He could feel the tension between them. He wanted to brake it in some way, but how?

Maia was worried about what to do when they got to Taki's. Continue the conversation they had been having at his house or start a new one? Was she supposed to pay half of the bill or let Simon get it? Could Simon even eat human food? "Simon? Can you, uh, you know.... Eat people food?" Maia blushed a little after that question. It made her feel uncomfortable to ask Simon about his eating habits.
When they got to Taki's Maia's nervousness heightened. It wasn't the fact that she hadn't been out on a date in awhile, she could have handled that, it was because it was Simon. She had known Simon for a long time now and thought of him as a good friend, perhaps her best friend, what if them dating messed up that friendship? Maia glanced at Simon, was it her imagination or did it seem like he was nervous too?
Maia just stared at Taki's, it seemed more scary than usual. It would definitely be much easier to stand out here all night but, Maia realized that if they were actually going to do this it required them to go inside. So she steeled her nerves, told herself to stop being a baby, and grabbed Simon's hand and started pulling him towards the door. "C'mon, let's get a table."

Simon laughed loudly. He smiled at Maia. He personally thought that it was obvious that he couldn’t eat ‘people food,’ but she might not have known it. “No, Maia,” he said, he had stopped laughing now, but he was still smiling kindly, “I can’t eat ‘people food.’ But I really do miss some things...” he said, as the smile faded quickly. “Just a quick question. Are you restricted eating any ‘people food’ in any way? Like, are you… sick when you eat... glucose or something?” he inquired.
They stood outside, both staring past the glamour that would not work on either of them ever again. He looked over at her, and she looked a little nervous as well. At least she didn’t look like she was in a bad mood at the moment. Hopefully things wouldn’t go to bad. He was holding his breath, not like he needed to breathe though. It had become a habit not to breathe now. He found it a little weird, but calming in a strange way.
As Maia grabbed Simon’s hand, he walked along with her. He did, but didn’t really want to go in. He felt nervous about everything. What would she eat? A potato salad while he drank a glass of blood? It seemed really odd. As they entered he looked around for a good seat. He saw a 2 seater over in the corner. “How about over there?” he said.

Maia looked at Simon as he laughed and smiled. He looked almost happy "Well I was just wondering since we are going to a food place..." She wondered what he was going to do when they got inside. Would he just sit while she ate? Why had he picked this place then, if he couldn't eat any of the food. "No, I can eat people food just fine. I just uh, hunt animals and things when I'm in my wolf form." Maia wondered if he got sick when he ate/drank anything other than blood.
It was impossible to know how things would go tonight. Bad, good, horrible, great; Maia couldn't decide. The night had started out ok, Simon had annoyed her just a tad but he had meant well, and now she was standing outside of a diner. On a date. With Simon. Hadn't she just told herself, in his driveway, that they were going to be just friends? Where had that idea gone? Maia glanced at Simon again and smiled a small smile, she supposed that idea had disappeared right as he opened his front door.
Maia felt oddly calm as they walked into Taki's. It wasn't crowded but not completely deserted either. Maia looked around for a table but Simon found one first. She didn't really want to let go of his hand, she thought her nerves would come back if she did, but did so anyways so they could sit down. "Gosh it's been awhile since I've been here. I usually go to The Moon. It hasn't changed much though."Maia looked around and her gaze fell back on Simon. And neither, she thought, have you.

Simon’s smile faded a little. He only wished that he appeared as old as Maia because he thought that they were pretty good for each other. He found it really hard to think about the fact that that would never, ever work. They were also so different for each other. He nodded towards her. “Lucky you,” he said, “Getting to eat food… normal food…” he sighed.
He was still worried about how this was going to go. They walked right over to the table and chairs together. A few people stared at them as they past, probably thinking the same thing that most Downworlders thought when they were together, Werewolf? Vampire? WEIRD! He didn’t pay much attention to those people.
Simon sat down in the and gestured for Maia to sit down as well. He didn’t want to let go of her hand, but she had pulled away so that they could sit down. “It’s has been ages... it’s a nice place though,” he said. He smiled and picked up a little menu which was placed conveniently on the table. He turned over to the vampire selection. Deer Blood, Goats Blood, Cow Blood… and the list went on and on… He suddenly felt a little anxious.

Maia wished she had a watch so that she could see what time it was. But she didn't, and she had left her cell phone at her apartment. It seemed like it had been forever but in reality it'd probably only been 15 minutes. "I think normal is overrated sometimes."
Maia looked around at the other customers in Taki's with interest. There was a faerie in one corner, a few warlocks in another, and some werewolves. Maia looked away from the werewolves. They would know that she was one of them and that Simon was a vampire. It didn't bother her that he was a vampire, it bothered her that other people minded.
The menu was on the table so Maia picked it up and begin to examine it. "Yeah it is a nice place. But some of the people who come here aren't so nice..." Maia thought angrily of the werewolves. Sometimes downworlders could be just as judgemental as shadowhunters.

“I would give anything to be normal again, Maia,” Simon said quietly, “Anything. But it will never happen. I hate this life, and I want it gone. It was cool for a week or so, he whole speed and strength thing, but now it’s just… not fun. It’s boring and tiresome.” He felt a little better letting that out. He really wasn’t happy with his current status of Dead.
Simon threw his menu back on the table, not really caring what he ordered. He didn’t look up. It looked at the cracks in the table and started to count them absentmindedly. He looked up at Maia again after and smiled softly. He hoped that she understood what he was going through. And it mustn’t have been easy for her either, turning into a wolf randomly once a month. He wished that they could both be normal, even if it was overrated.
He watched as Maia looked at the menu. “I know what you mean,” he said. “At least it’s pretty controlled here. I haven’t heard of many fights in a while.” That could have been the Shadowhunters fault. A few of them would come from time to time and look after the place and make sure nothing happened. But he couldn’t see any himself at the moment.

Maia knew what Simon was going through, knew what it was like to wake up and not be human. You never really got over something like that. She had no idea what to say to him to make him feel better, so she just said the first thing that popped into her head. "Only a week? I'm still fascinated with myself." Maia smiled at him. She'd heard somewhere that laughter was the best medicine, hopefully that was true.
Maia had no idea what .to order, she wasn't really all that hungry. She wondered what Simon was getting. A quick glance upward revealed that he wasn't looking at his menu, but staring at the table instead. "Aren't you getting anything?" Maia had never been one of those girls who wouldn't eat in front of a guy if they weren't eating too, but it had been his idea to come here. What was the point if neither of them were going to eat anything?
Maia resumed looking at the menu, trying to find something that sounded remotely appealing to her. So far there was nothing. "Yeah I haven't either. That's way different than the Moon, we have fights every other day in there." Maia smiled a little. "The cubs like testing their strength" It was funny to watch the young werewolves grapple around, each of them trying to get the upper hand. Sometimes one of them won, other times they had to pulled apart, but most of the time both of them agreed to give up on the fight.

Simon knew that Maia was trying to make him laugh, and it was sort of working. He smiled and laughed softly. “Yes, just a week,” he said softly, still smiling, “But I must admit, that was one pretty awesome week,” he didn’t like admitting it, but the thought of never ageing sounded pretty good at first, until he realised that he was actually 16 and would be like that forever. He also liked the fact that he wasn’t a stupid mundane anymore and that he now belonged in this world. But there we some horrible things that came along with this new life; no food, water, growth, life… he hated being dead. He hadn’t thought of that in the first week. “It sort of turned down hill when Valentine wanted to kill me.”
Simon was feeling a little peckish, but again hated to admit it. He felt slightly nervous about his diet in front of Maia. He knew that she would understand though. He understood about her. “Probably,” he said slowly. “I don’t really care what I get. Some vampires must be pretty picky,” he said, pointing to the vampire menu. He’d seen a few of them earlier, taking ages to choose the one that they wanted most. He knew that all blood had a different taste, but he couldn’t be bothered to pick a favourite.
Simon smiled. “I can only imagine what goes on at Hotel Dumort,” he said. It was probably pretty bad over there. He knew that every vampire in that place knew everything about him, and he was pretty sure that a few of them were a little scary about it. “Were you like that?” he said, “Did you once start a fight as a cub?” he said, smiling still. The smiled flattened though when he thought back to those days… seeing Maia as a 15 year old girl… it burned him, just like the Star of David did.

She looked at Simon then smiled. "I bet it was" Maia knew what he meant, sometimes it was incredible awesome to be supernatural but other times it completely sucked. Like if a boyfriend wanted to buy her jewelry and got her sterling sliver, she'd never be able to wear it no matter how pretty it was. "I know. I was there." Maia almost asked him if he remembered, but decided not to. Sometimes it seemed like all he did remembered from then was Clary, and she didn't want to drag up any painful memories.
Maia sighed in frustration. There was absolutely nothing on the entire menu that sounded appealing to her. "Oh, I thought that all blood tasted the same..." At least Simon knew what he was getting. Without the menu to distract her, her mind began to wander in different directions. But all of those thoughts somehow seemed to connect back Simon. It was amazing really, how much she thought about him sometimes. Like when she was eating a bowl of Count Chocula. Or when she passed a video game store. It was so bizarre. Maia wondered if the same thing happened to him.
"Probably something close to what happens at The Moon." She had never been to the hotel, but knew that people who had just been turned liked to see what they could do. "Well I guess we all started our own fair share of fights, and I'm no exception." Maia thought about the stories she had heard from her pack mates. Friendly fights could escalate into something more in an instant, so for the most part she didn't intentionally start any.

Simon nodded and smiled slightly. They could see eye to eye on this, they had experience similar matters. He remembered how he felt when he was turned. He wondered if he had felt worse than her. What would it be like to be a werewolf? To wake up like that randomly one day? “Maia, you don’t have to tell me if it’s personal, but how did it feel when you were changed?” He didn’t want to say much more; he didn’t want to intrude on her past too much, but he had always been a little curious about it.
Simon watched Maia as she struggled to find something that she liked. He wished he could help. “I thought it did too, until 20 years ago…” he sort of drowned out. He didn’t really like telling here about how dreadful his life was, because he knew that she had faced similar barriers in her life. At least she would be able to sympathise. No one else he knew could do that like her. Clary was living her perfect life with Angel and Jace. She didn’t need to be worried by Simon’s drabble. But Maia didn’t have someone like Clary did. She was more like Simon in that way.
“Yeah, it would be pretty similar,” he said. The new ones did like testing their strength, like he had, but he hadn’t killed or hurt anyone in the process. Simon could imagine Maia fighting, and thought that she would be pretty good at it. He like her attitude towards those things sometimes, just the way she could throw herself out at people sometimes was amazing.

Maia instinctively stiffened when Simon asked how it felt when she changed. It brought up memories of Jordan, the worst boyfriend imaginable. "When I first changed into a wolf or when I was bit?" It had been painful on both accounts, that experience was something she would never wish on anyone. Jordan obviously didn't feel same way, he was the one who had turned her into a werewolf. Maia hated him for that, she would probably punch him in the face if she ever saw him again, which hopefully she wouldn't.
"Oh well....." She trailed off, uncertain of what to say. All this werewolf-vampire stuff could be so awkward sometimes. She wondered what Simon did if he went to Clary's house for dinner or something. Maia wondered if he was ashamed of what he was. He seemed to be sometimes, but it wasn't his fault that he was a vampire. "Simon do you ever think that we were turned because we have extremely bad luck?" Or extremely bad taste in boyfriends, she thought silently.
"Do you go back to the hotel from time to time or do you stay away?" Maia had never heard him talk about going there but that didn't mean he didn't. Even though she had moved out of the police station she still stopped by every now and then to see how things were going. Maybe it was the same with Simon, or maybe he didn't go at all. Maia could see why he wouldn't, those vampires couldn't go out in the sun and were less than friendly. He was different from them, maybe they didn't like him because of that.

“Um…” he started, feeling a little awkward, “both times. How did it… feel… for me it was just strangeness.” He said softly. He wondered if a vampire had ever asked a werewolf what it was like to change. He hoped no one else was listening in, but he was afraid that they all were. He was feeling a little odd as well. He hadn’t really enjoyed waking up randomly as a monster one day, throwing your best friend aside because she was in the way of the little plastic bags filled with blood… He still felt ashamed of that moment.
Simon didn’t want to sounds mean to Maia. It could have been her fault she had been bitten, but he didn’t really know. She could have been careless at that moment, just like he was. But maybe it was all an accident for her. He knew that the guy that changed her was a scoundrel, so maybe it wasn’t her fault. “You may have had bad luck… I was just plain stupid,” he said, his voice was rising slightly. “Who else would walk into a hotel full of vampires, just to ask if they were becoming one? Pfft!” he was so angry at himself for this. “I’m sorry, Maia,” he said after a pause, “I just hate it how I did that. For me, it wasn’t bad luck.”
Simon shuddered. The thought of the hotel still freaked him out a little. He visited it very seldom. “I hardly ever go there,” he said. “They all hate me for what I am, and the place will always bring me horrid memories in a tightly wrapped package.” He sighed. It was true, they were all so jealous of his at that place. They would all do anything to go into the sunlight, and he did it every day, so freely and willingly.

"Well when I was bit, it hurt a little but I was more surprised than anything else. And when I changed for the first time it hurt a lot, I think I passed out. When I woke up I got on the train to Manhattan and found a pack to join." Maia gave him the briefest summary of that story as she could. She left out the part about Jordan being the one who had changed her. There was no need for Simon to know about that stuff. Besides, how awkward would it be to bring up past boyfriends while they were on a date?
Maia looked at Simon as his voice began to rise, he sounded mad. "Whoa, Simon calm down. Things just happen." She didn't necessarily believe that everything happened for a reason, but most things did. Whatever urge had pulled Simon to that hotel, he couldn't have controlled it. "It's ok, this is a touchy subject for most people. Maia wasn't that touchy about it. "And it wasn't just bad luck for me either."
Maia nodded, she understood what Simon was saying. She hadn't been back home in a long time, too many bad memories. "I figured as much. People are jealous of what they can't have or do. And jealousy can easily turn into fear or hate." She didn't think of the werewolves she knew hated her, but you never know. "Simon, do you like being able to still walk in the sun?"

Simon already knew most of this. “But did you actually know what had happened to you? How did it feel when you found out?” He felt sorry for her already. It wouldn’t have been nice. At least he didn’t have to experience too much pain when he changed. He just passed out and woke up in a grave. He wished that Maia hadn’t had to feel so much pain. He wondered what would happen if you were sedated when you were bitten.
Simon paused and looked down. “I’m so sorry,” he said slowly and meaningfully. “I just… I hate what happened to me, and it was all my fault. I can’t blame Raphael for when happened to me. He only did what he did because I had randomly entered his house. And he saved me, without him I wouldn’t be here now. The others would have killed me.” He looked up again and stared into her eyes and smiled slightly. “Yeah, I guess it can be… I don’t know, it just makes me sad.” He nodded.
He wondered if Maia actually missed being with her pack. Maybe she wanted to go back. “They are, I could tell when they wanted to kill me for it. They are really jealous.” He smiled a little. He wished that he could maybe befriend another vampire, but that would be really hard. “I do, and I wouldn’t give it up. I am so glad and happy that I can, but it does come with a cost,” he said softly.
