I LIKE IT IN THE CITY WHEN TWO WORLDS COLLIDE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sam glanced at her again when she starting walking next to him again, relaxing a little bit more. He might not be sure what Avalon wanted or how to react to her, but he liked being around her. She was easy to talk to, which was nice, since he hadn't really had anyone he could talk to since coming to New York. He was comfortable around her, even despite not really knowing what to make of her. For the moment, he decided to just go with it.
"You're family's really tight," it wasn't a question, it was an observation, and Sam did his best to mask the jealousy there. His grandparents were dead, his mother was hardly ever around, and she wouldn't even tell him who his father was. He was loathe to admit that he missed her, even though it was true. He hadn't realized how much he missed his old friends until right now, talking to Avalon. "My mom probably hasn't even noticed I'm gone." He laughed, wondering even as he did why he'd admitted to that. Maybe she was a little too easy to talk to.
Glad for the change in subject, Sam brightened visibly. "Well, if you want your classic burger 'n' fries, I'd recommend that little stand there. I know, it doesn't look like much, but it shames the chain restaurants." He pointed to a rather non-descript burger hutch, "but if you're in the mood for something a little more ethnic, there's a sushi joint over there. Great sake, they even serve to minors as long as you keep it quiet. Or there's the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet there, it's pretty good, and of course, the mandatory mall Taco place." He pointed to each of the restaurants in question as he described them, despairing a little at his own knowledge. Definitely needed to start going somewhere else once in a while.

you loved me 'cause I'm fragile. When I thought that I was strong. She could hardly count her family being, as he put it, tight. There were days when she'd swear up and down at Lance in Italian until she went crosseyed and begging herself not to grab a pencil and drive it into his juglar. But her thought grasped a hold of his last quip and she frowned. His mother sounded like a real biddy. "Sounds like my dad," she murmured as she went to stick her hands in her jeans pockets only to remember that she had a dress over them.
Avalon took a few more steps forward, eyes following where he pointed and almost let her jaw drop at the mention of the sushi bar allowing minors to drink sake. But, she blinked, how old could someone be for them to drink alcohol? She'd have to ask Arthur when she went home... her stomach complained again and she gave a small, sheepish sigh. "So where to? You lead and I'll follow, mate. Well, that is until I find what I want." She gave another laugh and leaned a little on the heels of her shoes.

I LIKE IT IN THE CITY WHEN TWO WORLDS COLLIDE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sam gave a pause when she compared her father to his mother, it looked like there was some ripples in her seemingly-perfect family life, after all. He was ashamed to admit he found himself a little glad; perfection was way overrated. Avalon was pretty down-to-earth, and even had her own share of problems. Maybe he wasn't exactly being sympathetic, but he was glad nonetheless. Even a mundie could have something in common with a shadowhunter.
He decided not to pursue her family issues right now; first meeting probably wasn't the best time to delve into the deep, inner turmoil of a person's soul, and he didn't want to scare her off. Instead, he returned to the lighter, more socially acceptable topic of what to eat. He took a moment to consider the options, but he didn't want to seem indecisive, so he went with his first instinct and started towards the Chinese buffet.
"You know, I think I'm in the mood for a little Chinese." He answered, getting in line and handing over a few crumpled bills in exchange for a tray. He wasn't sure what Avalon wanted, but he could still help her figure out what that was if she wanted to. Mall food was typically greasy and fattening, but Sam worked out enough that it wasn't a worry. Thank goodness for training.

Avalon stifled a laugh, leaning on the heels of her feet as she watched him grab a tray. She blinked, turning slightly to gaze at the other fast food shops - eyes locking down on a Corn-dog 7. She smiled gleefully. They did have corn dogs! Not wanting to just wander off on her own now, she blinked and took a few breaths. She could wait. It was just a corn dog anyways.
Glancing back toward Sam, she took a few steps back as other customers pushed in. Scoffing at how rude they acted, she crossed her arms over her chest - after making sure her bag and umbrella wouldn't fall and maim someone. A small grin lit up her lips, that would have been a sight. Finally she strode back over to Sam, intent on upsetting the few that had stomped on her feet. "Do you want to meet up at a table, or something? The corn dog station's calling to me!" She gave a silly grin, and blinked at him. It'd be easier if they did - that way she knew that if that nonce from earlier popped back onto the scene, she could take off in Sam's direction.
