Arianna was struck by his words. "You...live here all by yourself?" Now that she thought about it, there had been little to no personal effects in the house, nary a photograph to be seen. She noticed it once more as they made their way back inside. For some reason, she found this upsetting. Having others around made a burden so much easier to bear. There had to be a reason that someone had sent a Drevak on him, and whatever that reason was, he was dealing with it alone.
His words brought her out of her musings. "Ah, yeah. We are nothing if not interesting." she said half-heartedly. "Was that the first time you've seen a demon killed?"

K:anode looked surprised and confused by her reaction. "Yeah.. what of it?"He asked. Loads of people, most people in their twenties in fact lived alone or at least away from home. Why should he be any different? What, because he looked younger? He had to admit he had to go to quite a lot of hassle to buy cutlery, with minors not being allowed by knives.
"Hm, pretty much."He replied, though he had encountered a Shadowhunter trying to get information from a downworlder.. a memory he despised and he doubted she needed to hear. "It's a bit anti-climatic."He added with a smirk. Some how it rather amused him.

Arianna half-shrugged. "I dunno, I 'spose it'd be lonely." she muttered. She had never lived on her own, always either in parents' home or in the Institute. She may not be willing to admit it, but despite her willful avoidance of those she was currently living with, actually living alone would be rather miserable.
She grinned at his answer. "Anti-climatic? I'd have to agree. You'd think, they'd want to go out with a bang or something a bit more dramatic." She almost laughed at the mental image of exploding demons. Every mission would end in a mess. A poisonous, acidic mess. She was suddenly thankful that some demons left nothing behind when they were killed.

For a second K:anode looked a little horrified, the image of a demon -or anyone else- exploding seemed quite horrible. "Aha.. yeah.. I guess."He replied weakily. Personally he'd been thinking something to do with lights and darkness rather then blood and guts.
"...Anyway, any idea who might do something like this?"He asked her. "Someone with control over at least one Drevak."He offered in suggestion. He was still suspicious of Dinistr, but he knew he should widen his scope to include others. Not doing so could be his undoing.

"I was hoping you might have some idea." Arianna replied. "Summoning a Drevak is not too difficult, or so I'm told." She frowned. "So, that narrows us down to...every capable warlock in the city." Which didn't help them much. She exhaled in a sigh.
"Whoever it is, isn't going to like that their spy is dead. They may send something more powerful. You'll have to be on the lookout." she warned. Who knows, if the whoever it was hadn't been getting any info on him to begin with, they may just leave him alone. Better to be aware of and prepare for the worst, though.

K:anode didn't reply, looking thoughtful for a moment. "Hm.. well, I don't think you should worry about it much. It won't be anything I can't handle."He told her, giving her a confident look. He would look into it himself. He knew well how to investigate things by now and would surely get to the bottom of it. However, whether his guess was right or not, he didn't want some girl getting hurt over his problem.
"It's gotten late."He pointed out. Indeed, the light coming in from the living room window was now only from the street lamp's orange glow. The moon was blanketed by cloud. Complete darkness was over the city. "I'll walk you to where ever it is your going."He half offered, half insisted. Obviously, he was cautious that whoever sent the Drevak would send more downworlders to attack the hunter.

"If you say so..." K:anode looked confident, and sounded sure enough. Maybe he'd had experience in this sort of thing. Tracking people down, that is. Arianna supposed she'd have to trust him on this one. She didn't have much of a choice; you couldn't force help on someone.
The time had escaped her, as she consulted her watch and was surprised at the hour. It was definitely time to go. She looked up at his offer, began to protest; she was a Shadowhunter, well and fully capable of taking care of herself. But she could see he would not be swayed. "Alright. Back to the Institute, I 'spose."

"Alright."K:anode replied, picking his coat up from off a kitchen chair, along with a black umbrella. "I can't stand water.."He murmured in explanation, opened the door for her, then left himself.
"I'm not sure where the institute is though."He pointed out. As they walked he occasionally would glance about, clearly not quite at ease. "Do you have to report stuff like that Dervak?"He asked eventually, though it didn't bother him too much.

As they moved out into the street, Arianna rolled her sleeves down to hide the marks that still stood in stark contrast to her skin. "Not to worry, I'll lead the way." she said. She was still riding the adrenalin rush from the fight, making her a little twitchy and antsy, ready for a fight that she wasn't in.
She noticed that he, too, was not quite at ease. "Well...yeah. Once I get back, I'll need to make a report. Standard procedure." she said. She paused a moment as they reached an intersection, eyeing the street sign before choosing which way to go.

"Hm.. Okay."He replied. K:anode wasn't keen on any kind of fuss being made over it, particularly if any other shadowhunters would be coming out for a 'little visit'. Though he had to admit most of the shadowhunters he'd met -though it was only three- the majority were good and kind. The first however, was a demon in a shadowhunter's clothing. Metaphorically speaking of course.
K:anode paid quite a lot of attention to their surroundings as they made their way through the city. Hearing something in the distance as they crossed the intersection, he seemed much more alert. The sound of cruel laughter mixed with drunken jubilation. He sighed, guessing it was the other downworlders. Their laughter was a little different from your average mundane's. Some of it was a little more howl-ey, others just not quite right. He was always surprised how anyone could get so drunk even before midnight. "Better hurry on."He murmured. They probably wouldn't be too problematic, but he didn't want to take the chance.

Arianna cast him a sidelong look. She hoped the report wouldn't be much of an issue. It was mostly to help gauge the levels of demon activity in the area. If there was to be any follow up, they would likely send her, or she would accompany someone.
The young Nephilim cocked her head slightly at the sound of raucous laughter. Likely drunk downworlders. Seemed K:anode hadn't been kidding when he said downworlders would be out and about tonight. She resisted the urge to cause trouble under the guise of investigating the commotion. You'd have thought she'd had enough trouble for one night, but that didn't seem to be the case. K:anode quite obviously did not want there to be any more trouble; avoiding what she was thinking of instigating had been his purpose in walking her home, after all. "I'd have hoped I could walk the streets I'm risking my life to protect without provoking downworlders..." she murmured, a touch of bitterness in her voice. In compliance with his wishes, she picked up her pace slightly.

Glancing at her, K:anode noticed the the look she had. One that seemed to want to cause the Sownworlders trouble. They were being noisy, but they'd know about it if any real problems were to start. He ignored it though. If she wanted to go and wind them up, that was her business. He'd be happily going home earlier and losing all affiliation with her. He didn't need them knocking on his door about a childish Shadowhunter.
"It's not much different to Mundanes if you think about it."He pointed out. "They get drunk too.. Just a drunk with needle-sharp fangs or the ability to morph into a wolf is a little more problematic." He smirked a little at the thought, though he was being quite serious. "And anyway, I'm more then sure you'd be able to deal with them. They're pretty uncoordinated like that. It's almost funny."

Arianna chuckled at the thought. "You're right." she admitted. A bunch of drunk downworlders running around was no reason for her to go picking a fight, especially if she already knew her presence might cause trouble. Wouldn't be much of fight in any case, as he'd pointed out. Hadn't she just gotten finished telling him not too long ago that she was supposed to protect downworlders?
She felt slightly chagrined as these thoughts went through her head. She was only a year away from being recognized as an adult among other Shadowhunters, yet here she was, on the verge of picking a fight for no particular reason. Certainly not something to be proud of.
Looking up, she noticed the highest points of the Institute come into view. They were only a few blocks away, if that.

Seeing a building up ahead which looked a little -more- then it's surroundings, K:anode guessed it was that Institute place. If he winched a little, he could vaguely see the glamour disguising it. It'd be a pretty stupid mistake of those Downworlders if they chose now as the time to start a fight with the Shadowhunter girl.
"So what's the deal with the Institute?"He asked eventually, breaking the mild silence. He'd not really heard too much about it and really planned to avoid it. Of course he knew Shadowhunters stayed there, occasionally, but that was about all.

Arianna paused before answering, thinking of the best way to explain. "Hmm. Well, if the city is the front line, the Institute is our home base. Most major cities all over the world have an Institute, with any number of Shadowhunters living there. Most Shadowhunters have a home in Idris too, so they'll split their time between there and any chosen Institute, though the head of an Institute will stay there more often than not." she said. "They're sort of a home away from home." she said, a little wistfully.
Somehow, talking about the Institute made her homesick for Alicante. She'd never been away for more than three months at a time, and it seemed she would be here in New York for an indeterminate amount of time.
The Institute loomed over them as they rounded the corner. Behind the glamour of a crumbling, ancient church was a Gothic cathedral, grand and imposing.
